The research document that follows was compiled in 2013 in London and flowed clearly without any missing links until 1794 with the birth of of Charles Peach married to Mary Peach as recorded in the 1841 Census. At this point it was difficult to easily connect Charles to his parentage although several options were identified. Sue Comont as a professional genealogical researcher was commissioned to look at the possible forebears of Charles and as shown in her research paper it was not possible to clearly identify the parents of Charles. However the missing connection was related to how Charles received his training to move from the established family business of sheep farming as one link suggested into the skills of Slating and Plastering. It was necessary to be an indentured apprentice to receive this qualification and these records were normally held at the local Church Parish which we could not identify. In the process of building this website it became clearer with the Census records that Charles parents were indeed Sheep farmers and the connections then opened to prove the connection with the Charles Grandfather which have now been traced back to Peter Peach born circa 1738 in Maxey approximately 9 miles north of Peterborough. Peter proved himself a successful farmer and businessman and had the financial capacity to assist his Grandson Charles into the profession of Slater and Plasterer. The records office personnel considered it almost impossible for a son of sheep farmers to become a tradesman unless there was a suitable financial backer.

  9. The professional expertise of a Genealogy Researcher was needed and the attached document from Sue Comont concluded that the trail was not clear but with two possible directions. Refer to Sue Comont’s research paper filed separately.

Charles had some interesting characteristics that perhaps the second generation children can relate to the first generation Peach brothers?

Newspaper cutting from 19. Jan 1815 (NRO Ref:LF72) indicated Charles when intoxicated became slanderous and maliciously spoke disrespectful words against his brother John Peach. In face of prosecution he acknowledged his fault and expressed contrition and sorrow in a public manner and paid his brothers costs in order to stop further proceedings.

10. John Peach of Burleigh – Born circa 1768 in Peterborough presently considered father to Charles ( a genealogical search continues to locate more details) It is possible since John Peach moved to Burleigh over 100 miles south of Peterborough closer to London that Charles was taken in by his Grandfather Peter Peach who we assess as having the financial means to support and or direct Charles into an indentured apprenticeship into the construction industry away from working with sheep and other livestock? Charles was successful in becoming both a Slater and a Plasterer both we assume to be with the support of his Grandfather Peter Peach.

11. Peter Peach of Maxey – Born circa 1738

UK Land Tax Redemption records of 1798 – Peter Peach occupied lands at Maxey and Deeping Gate. Peter held two pieces of land not as owner but occupier leased from Vincent Bellars. The Tax Peter paid indicated he was doing quite well and he needed to leave a will.

Genealogy Research Sue Comont

see pdf file

In London in 2013 Sue Comont a Genealogy Specialist was commissioned to investigate the family background of Charles Peach. Charles was clearly identified as being a forebearer three generations earlier than Grandfather Arthur Ernest and born 1798 in Peterborough. The complication arose in that Charles seemed not to be connected to parents coming from the bricklaying trade and himself was a Slater and Plasterer. In fact the most closely aligned parents of Charles were sheep farmers, so it seemed unlikely we were on the right track with Charles parents. Please read the attached.pdf file describing Sue’s logic and ultimately we are now of the opinion that indeed Charles father was a sheep farmer and his Grandfather Peter Peach born circa 1738 who left a will was most likely the patron of Charles to support his deviation out of the family farming business into the construction industry. This research is still ongoing to consolidate this perspective.
